Formerly they existed along the length of the Portuguese coast. Nowadays, few communities practice artesanal fishing, where the boats come ashore after each catch, and the women wait for their men on the beach. Most women no longer wear the black shawls of ancient times. However, they still have the same expression in their eyes.
